Campus revitalised with carnivals and welcoming events
To help new undergraduates and postgraduates integrate into university life, Lingnan University has organised a series of orientation activities, and on 7 September the Office of Student Affairs hosted the New Student Orientation (NSO) Campus Life Carnival 2023 at Kin Sun Square and Wing On Plaza, where an enthusiastic audience numbered over 1,000 students and parents.
The carnival kicked off with a traditional Chinese lion dance, and the Lingnan University Lion Dance and Martial Art Team’s agility made that one of the highlight student performances.
Prof S. Joe Qin, President of Lingnan University, visited the activity booths to meet students, and Wan, a freshman, told him she had loved lion dances ever since she was a child, and joined the lion dance team as soon as she got to Lingnan, so she is grateful for President Qin’s support for the activity.
Ah Fai (first from left) says that this is his first year participating in the event as Team Leader, and he looks forward to more freshmen joining his troupe so he can form two teams for future competitions.
Lingnan students give demonstrations of sport, dance and music.
Thirty-eight promotional booths are set up by 200 students and staff to show Lingnan’s diverse extracurricular activities, and student organisations, university teams, groups, and student service units.
Besides, Lingnan University also organised the National Flag Raising Ceremony on 4 September, attended by the senior management, staff and students. It aims to promote national education and to help students develop a sense of belonging to the country and enhance their sense of national identity.
