Lingnan Design Thinking Challenge Day
Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative believes in the power of social innovation. We equip students from Lingnan University or other sister schools with tools to integrate research-oriented innovation in the problem-solving process. Design thinking is one of these tools, a method that teaches students to envision creative solutions to problems and build prototypes to rapidly test out their ideas. We welcome participants from different walks of life to join us for this design journey, within and outside of the University
If you want to know more about what design thinking is, please also visit our free online course: https://www.ln.edu.hk/osl/students/other-students-opportunities/design-thinking-online-101-3-hour-training.
Highlighted below is one of our many events held with a secondary school:
Over 100 students from 12 secondary schools participated in the first Lingnan Design Thinking Challenge Day organized by the Office of Service-Learning on 29 & 30 June 2018 to learn design thinking methodology and its relationship with social innovation, and apply the methodology to design innovative solutions for meeting the needs in Lingnan campus.
Students joined a simulation activity, in which they played the role of “Lingnan freshmen” and walked around the campus to experience how the Lingnan teachers and students used the campus facilities. After that, they brainstormed ideas and designed solutions in response to the needs that they had discovered in the campus tour. During the process, not only had the students mastered the design thinking skills and understood the importance of empathy in designing human-centered solutions, but also enhanced their understandings about Lingnan University.
