Essay Competition of Culture and Heritage

In order to motivate the development of Chinese culture and heritage among the youth in Hong Kong, the Home Affairs Bureau and Hong Kong and South China Historical Research Programme launched an Essay Competition of Culture and Heritage in May 2006.

More than 2,100 secondary students, who came from 85 secondary schools, participated in this competition. 200 junior secondary students would be chosen to join the Culture and Heritage Camp took place on Lady MacLehose Holiday Village in Sai Kung. Another 30 senior secondary students would be chosen to join the Culture and Heritage Tour. They would had the chance to visit heritages in Quanzhou.

Culture and Heritage Camp and Tour

Culture and Heritage Camp

After the Culture and Heritage Essay Competition, 200 junior students were chosen to join the Culture and Heritage Camp from 15 to 17 July 2006 within the venue of Lady MacLehose Holiday Village in Sai Kung. The Culture and Heritage Camp was organized by the Hong Kong and South China Historical Research Programme and the Hong Kong History Museum.

During the camp, students learnt to make different kinds of ancient Chinese knickknack and enjoyed the show of traditional Chinese performance. They also had the chance to explore the star at night by using the telescope.


Culture and Heritage Tour

After the Culture and Heritage Essay Competition, 30 senior students were chosen to join the Culture and Heritage Tour from 20 to 23 July 2006. The tour was organized by the Hong Kong and South China Historical Research Programme.

During the tour, students had visited variety of temples, heritages, ancient buildings and museums in Quanzhou. In order to encourage the participation, Dr. Lau Chi Pang, the tour leader, explained details to students at the same time.
