Design Innovation Programme
The entrepreneurial mindset is a state of mind interested in the pursuit of opportunity with scarce, uncontrolled resources and required a high level of problem-solving abilities. And therefore, LEI works with faculties and departments to integrate practices like Design Thinking, Participatory Design, and Lego Serious Play (LSP), pedagogies used to improve teaching and learning effectiveness by motivating high levels of communications and interactions in class through group problem-solving.
The problem-solving method includes:
Design Thinking (DT) - Following the five-stage process from Stanford d.School, we will organize different events such as workshops, pop-up classes, and courses to cultivate students’ creativity and communication in the classroom and encourage multi-perspective thinking in problem-solving.
Participatory Design (PD) - Participatory Design is an approach that actively involves the people who are facing challenges. The PD processes are developed to design with end-users. When end-users are deeply engaged in the design, their aspirations are better incorporated, and needs are more accurately met. The perfect duration for a PD workshop conducted by LEI would be 4 hours face to face with a maximum of 40 participants, with one-third of the participants are formed by end-users.
Lego Serious Play (LSP) - LEGO Serious Play is a facilitation methodology developed to improve creative thinking and communication in an organization. In the process, learners will build with Lego bricks according to the theme and share their models to tell stories and ideas. Usually, this method will be adopted to improve team dynamics, organizational strategy, and future planning. To better facilitate, the perfect duration of an LSP workshop would be 2.5 hours face to face with a maximum of 12 participants.
Lingnan University organized the Asia Design Innovation Gallery annually. The programme aims to provide useful guidance for faculty members from higher education to adopt Design Thinking in their courses.
Courses with Design Thinking Elements
With a movement toward student-centered and personalized instruction, Lingnan University is using Design Thinking in the curriculum design and re-conceptualize its creation and delivery to meet the needs of all learners. Below are courses with the Design Thinking elements:
CLE9027 Innovation & Entrepreneurship for Global Grand Challenges
CLC9019 Policy and Technology for Urban and Rural Sustainability
CLC9012 To Care About Our Society - Social Marketing
CLE9023 Service Leadership
SLP1101 Community Engagement through Service-Learning
CLE9027 Cross-Border Service-Learning: Theory and Practice
The University Innovation Fellows (UIF) program is organized by Stanford d.school. It empowers students around the world to become agents of change in higher education. Fellows create opportunities that help their peers unlock their creative potential and develop the design-centered mindset required to take on complex challenges in today’s world. Students of all majors who want to shape the future of education are encouraged to apply.
Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative (LEI) will sponsor students to attend 3 days UIF gathering at Stanford University upon successful completion of the online training and project implementation.
